1. Check they hold the right licences
In Queensland, anyone handling refrigerant must hold an Australian Refrigeration Council (ARCtick) licence, and air conditioning installation work requires the appropriate QBCC licence. Ask for the numbers and check them. A reputable company will be happy to share them.

2. Look for real, local experience
Brisbane's heat, humidity and building styles all affect how a system should be sized and installed. A company that has worked locally for years knows how Queenslanders, townhouses, new builds and commercial buildings behave, and where installations tend to go wrong.
3. Make sure they match the job
A company that mostly installs single split systems may not be the right fit for a whole-home ducted system, and a commercial fit-out needs a team with design, documentation and compliance experience. Ask about similar jobs they have done recently.
4. Expect a proper assessment before a quote
A good quote starts with someone looking at your space: room sizes, orientation, insulation, ceiling space and where the outdoor unit can go. Be wary of a price given over the phone without any of that. An undersized or oversized system costs more to run and wears faster.

5. Ask about the brands they recommend

6. Think about who looks after it later
Air conditioning needs regular servicing to last. Choose a company that offers maintenance and repairs after the install, and ideally one that will also service systems it did not install, so you have one team to call for everything.
7. Read the reviews
Recent Google reviews tell you how a company communicates, whether it turns up when it says it will and how it handles problems. Look for patterns rather than a single comment either way.
